The activities of his research team cover the study of adsorption, diffusion and separation in porous adsorbents and catalysts, the development of novel tools to study gas- and liquid phase multicomponent adsorption and the analysis of structure \u2013 selectivity relationships in adsorption. Special attention is paid to adsorptive separation processes for a sustainable society, the development of innovative methods for the recovery of renewable chemicals and the intensification and electrification of CO<sub>2<\/sub> capture processes. Estudi\u00f3 Qu\u00edmica y se doctor\u00f3 en Ingenier\u00eda Qu\u00edmica por la Universidad de Oviedo en 1994 y 1999, respectivamente. Actualmente es Profesora de Investigaci\u00f3n del CSIC en el Instituto de Ciencia y Tecnolog\u00eda del Carbono (INCAR-CSIC) y su trayectoria cient\u00edfica ha versado siempre en el desarrollo, optimizaci\u00f3n, caracterizaci\u00f3n y utilizaci\u00f3n de materiales en el \u00e1mbito de la energ\u00eda y el medio ambiente. Ha trabajado en tem\u00e1ticas tan diversas como la minimizaci\u00f3n de NOX, la captura de CO2, el almacenamiento de H2, aislamiento t\u00e9rmico o el almacenamiento de energ\u00eda limpia y sostenible, siempre focalizando en el dise\u00f1o y control de las propiedades de los materiales implicados. Fruto de esta labor investigadora destaca la participaci\u00f3n en 59 Proyectos de investigaci\u00f3n de financiaci\u00f3n p\u00fablica a nivel regional, nacional e internacional, de los cuales ha sido Investigador responsable en 19 de ellos. Ha publicado m\u00e1s de 200 trabajos cient\u00edficos, incluyendo 12 cap\u00edtulos de libros, y recibiendo m\u00e1s de 13000 citas seg\u00fan Web of Science. Ha sido Editora del Bolet\u00edn del Grupo Espa\u00f1ol del Carb\u00f3n (Junio 2008 \u2013 Marzo 2014) y actualmente participa en el equipo editorial de la revista Materials y en el Advisory Board de la revista Carbon. Ha participado en m\u00e1s de 250 congresos cient\u00edficos internacionales y nacionales, workshops y conferencias invitadas. Tiene experiencia en transferencia de la ciencia con m\u00e1s de 20 contratos con empresas, 10 patentes y la creaci\u00f3n de una spin-off del CSIC. Ha participado activamente en la formaci\u00f3n de nuevos investigadores (7 DEAS\/Masters), supervisando estudiantes (3 Proyectos Fin de Carrera) y dirigido 13 Tesis Doctorales que acumulan 9 premios y 3 acc\u00e9sit, y en diversas actividades de divulgaci\u00f3n de la ciencia. Ha realizado estancias en otros centros de investigaci\u00f3n y universidades en el Reino Unido, Portugal, Italia y China. Actualmente es la responsable del grupo de materiales sol-gel en el INCAR-CSIC. Durante mi etapa predoctoral (1978-1983) colabor\u00e9 en el Departamento de Qu\u00edmica Inorg\u00e1nica, como responsable del primer Adsorpt\u00f3metro en funcionamiento en Asturias. A continuaci\u00f3n, trabaj\u00e9 en la obtenci\u00f3n de compuestos organomet\u00e1licos de Mn(I) y en una estancia posdoctoral en el Nitrogen Fixation Laboratory en Brighton.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">A partir de 1989 trabaj\u00e9 como investigador en el INCAR (actualmente Instituto de Ciencia y Tecnolog\u00eda del Carbono) del CSIC. A partir de ese momento mi trabajo se centr\u00f3 en la s\u00edntesis, caracterizaci\u00f3n y estudio de las aplicaciones de materiales carbonosos de diversa naturaleza, como carbones activados, coques, fibras de carbono, etc, obtenidos en nuestro grupo o en otros del INCAR. Asimismo, he colaborado con grupos de las Universidades de Oviedo, Granada, Palma de Mallorca, Sevilla, Madrid, Tarragona, Eindhoven, Fortaleza, Lisboa, New Castle, Sof\u00eda, Cambridge, etc.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Tambi\u00e9n trabaj\u00e9 en la caracterizaci\u00f3n fundamental y en las aplicaciones de zeolitas, MOF\u2019s, ZIF\u2019s etc. Parte de estos estudios se utilizaron para la obtenci\u00f3n de isotermas que sirvieron como modelo para la obtenci\u00f3n de diversos \u201ckernell\u201d para estudios de caracterizaci\u00f3n textural por NLDFT y para ajustes de campos de fuerza por simulaci\u00f3n molecular.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He participado en numerosos cursos de formaci\u00f3n dados dentro del INCAR, en los organizados en Jarandilla de la Vera por el Grupo Especializado de Adsorci\u00f3n y en un Master de postgrado de la Universidad de Oviedo, entre otros.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/section><\/div>\n\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><!-- close content Professor of Chemical Engineering at Instituto Superior T\u00e9cnico (IST), University of Lisbon. He is currently the President of research center CERENA and Assistant Secretary General of the Portuguese Chemical Society. MLP has been developing research in the field of adsorbent materials and related applications in the past 15 years, with several types of materials. In more recent years, his work has been mostly focusing on the application of materials for gas separation\/purification, gas storage and therapeutic gas delivery. He has been very successful in developing and studying hybrid materials and associated processes for challenging separations such as ethylene purification from ethane\/ethylene mixtures and biogas\/natural gas upgrading. He has also been tuning the properties of materials for the storage and therapeutic delivery of nitric oxide. He has been strongly engaged in the development of very selective hybrid materials for acetic acid capture that can be applied in cultural heritage preservation.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">MLP is\/was supervising 3 Post-docs, 8 PhDs, 12 MScs. He is author of 4 international patents (2 granted); 1 national patent, 2 book chapters; over 88 international peer reviewed papers, with more than 2418 citations (h-index=27; WoS). MLP was a cofounder of the company Adsorfoam.
